This page explains what an Alter FM account keeps about you, why, who else handles it, and how to have it deleted. Alter FM is run by Selcuk Atli, “we” below. We don’t sell your data and we don’t show ads.
One account across the Alter universe
An Alter FM account is one account for alter.fm and for the band sites and apps that sign in through it: today atli.co and the ATLI apps. On the web you sign in on alter.fm and are sent back to where you came from; in an app you sign in inside the app.
Each band’s site and app may keep more than the account does (its analytics, its plays, its VIP) and has its own policy saying what. For ATLI that is atli.co/privacy.
Signing in
Sign-in is handled by Clerk, with your Google account or, where it is offered, your Apple account. When you sign in we receive and keep on your account:
- your name, email address and profile picture, from that account;
- Clerk’s ID for you, and which of Clerk’s sign-in services issued it;
- whether Clerk had verified your email address;
- when you last signed in to a band’s admin, if you are one;
- an earlier Clerk ID, when an account was carried over to a new one;
- your role, if you are one of a band’s admins, with who invited you and the history of your access.
If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only see the relay address Apple gives us. We never see your Google or Apple password.
On alter.fm itself
alter.fm runs no analytics and no ads, and sets no cookies of its own. It keeps:
- whether you muted the radio, in your browser’s local storage, so it stays muted next time;
- Clerk’s cookies, which keep you signed in: set by the sign-in pages for all of alter.fm, so your browser sends them with its requests to alter.fm and to Clerk;
- on the sign-in pages, a short note in the tab of the times sign-in sent you back, so it can stop a loop.
The rest never leaves your browser. Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of them.
Who else handles it
We use these services to run the account. Each only gets what it needs for its part:
- Clerk: sign-in.
- Google and Apple: the accounts you sign in with.
- Convex: our database and server, where your account is kept.
- Vercel: hosts alter.fm and the band sites.
- Cloudflare: serves the radio’s pictures and sound.
These services are mostly in the United States, so your data may be handled there. We don’t share your data with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your account
We keep your account until you delete it. In a band’s app, Delete account (in More) deletes it at once: your account, your sign-in with Clerk and what the band sites keep on it. Or email hello@atli.co from the address you sign in with and we’ll delete it. You can also ask for a copy of what we hold about you. We’ll reply within 30 days.
An AMA question of yours that a band member answered stays in that AMA’s thread, so other fans’ threads still read right, but it no longer says who asked: it reads as “a deleted fan”, with no number. Your other questions are deleted. Your VIP number isn’t given to anyone else.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription; cancel that with Apple first.
Children
Alter FM isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly keep an account for one. If you think a child under 13 has signed in, email hello@atli.co and we’ll delete it.
Changes
When what we keep changes, we update this page and the date at the top. Questions about any of it: hello@atli.co.
